Tory austerity is causing children to go hungry.

“The number of users of Trussell food banks alone was a staggering 560,000 in 2016-2017 with the number of uses rising from 41,000 to 1.2 million in the same period. Suspensions and delays in the Universal credit system is causing untold misery.

Many schools offer children their main food of the day, but now the schools have broken up for the summer these children are off the radar. It is not just those people unfortunate enough to be out of work that are forced to use food banks.

The Tories failure to clamp down on zero hours contracts or to enforce a living wage has led to increasing numbers of working people also needing desperate support. Not only have the Tories caused the explosion of hungry people but they are not taking appropriate action to help them and are letting charities care for the needy.

In France, that has similar wealth to the UK (France is the 14th richest country in the EU and the UK is the 13th) more than twice the number of food parcels are being handed out. This is not because they have more poverty, it is because the government care more.

Thatcher used policies specifically designed to destroy the unions.

Striking miners were stopped from claiming any type of emergency benefit which was against human rights. Now it is clear that the Tories austerity policy is specifically designed to destroy the morale of a whole section of the population.”
